Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Design Club?

The Design Club is MIT Sloan’s focal point for all things related to design, which includes both Design Thinking and Design Doing. Most of all, being a member of the Design Club is a fun way to get to know classmates who share an interest in design, and to build new skills in a relaxed and low-risk environment.

Can you tell me more about DesignWorks?

DesignWorks is our flagship program in partnership with Continuum, a global innovation and design consultancy. During the program, Sloanies are mentored by Continuum consultants and learn how to apply design principles such as problem framing, qualitative research, ideation, prototyping, and other exciting methods to innovation. The 6-week experience includes workshops, mentorship, and project team meetings. If you're a local organization interested in sponsoring a DesignWorks project, please contact us.

Who can join the Design Club?

Any member of the MIT community is welcome to join. Club sign-ups happen during the first week of classes, and we look forward to meeting you then!

This is awesome, how can I join the Design Club?

If you are a new Sloan student, during the start of the fall semester we will host a kick-off meeting so you can learn more about Design Club and see if it’s right for you. After that meeting, students should enroll through Sloan Groups and pay their membership dues ($45/lifetime or $25/one year) to continue.

How and when is the leadership team selected?

New leadership members are selected in the fall semester. Note that you DO NOT have to be a "design expert" to be considered :)  If you are interested, please join the design club and come to our kick-off session with your ideas. To be considered, members will have to fill out an application highlighting why and how they plan to help the club.

Why do I have to pay club dues?

Club dues help cover costs for events, crafts, and supplies (you’ll be using a lot of Post-its for the design workshop!).

I am interested, how can I learn more?

Please feel free to contact us to talk more. We'd love to hear from you!
